HELLO EVERYONE! I AM PLEASED TO INFORM EVERYONE ABOUT THE STATUS OF OUR PROJECT: THE SUHS 1970 STAGE PROJECT.

A handful of us classmates were at a short meeting called by Pres Ben at his office this morning, August 5, 2010. Attached you will see the picture of the stage being constructed now. We all went for an ocular inspection with the project engineer, Engr. Ygnalaga. What you will see superimposed on the ground fronting the stage will be the seats which will be put there later on. They have started the roofing of the stage already and expect to show us all an almost finished if not finished product by then. You will all be able to visualize this better when we have our DEDICATION CEREMONY at 11:00AM on AUGUST 27, 2010  We are happy and equally proud to report to you the realization of a concerted undertaking we, as suhs class 1970 have taken. Thank you one and all. . . .

As of this writing, I am also happy to inform you all that there are 56 classmates who have confirmed they will be coming for our reunion and I can safely say about a dozen more we are expecting to see.

In just a little more than two weeks, we will all be back home in Silliman University, and in the high school that saw us grow up. Again, please let to us know your flight schedule and date of arrival so we can be there to welcome you all.  See you all soon!!!

Published below is a list of pledges, which we will constantly update to reflect the running total. This way, we will have a good idea where we are in relation to our goal. Keep in mind that we are still accepting pledges. You may indicate a time frame when you want to fulfill (pay up) your pledge, and we will send you a gentle reminder when that time comes.
To submit your pledge, you may email Tutit at Tutit_f@yahoo.com; Susan May at susanmay915@yahoo.com; Don at Dgonzaga@sallybeauty.com; or Joel at JVPal@aol.com.
In consideration of the fact that some classmates may want to donate anonymously, we got another suggestion to give you the option to publish in our website your real name or an alias you would like to use. Of course, the committee accepting the pledges and donations will know the real identity of the aliased individual for purposes of issuing an official receipt, but unless he/she wants to be identified, he will remain hidden under that name. If there are many of us using aliases, this could even turn into a fun guessing game.

___________________________________________________

Dear Classmates,
We would like to thank our Dumaguete classmates for working together to pinpoint for us a class project we will undertake, which would be significant, meaningful and relevant. The email that Tutit sent us earlier this week very clearly explained to us what that meeting has accomplished and what we all need to do.
To summarize, these are the two main points they have unanimously agreed:
    1. To create a Project Committee composed of Stella Florendo, chair; Ronaldo Teves, Dick Emperado, Restituto Edjec, Judith Ragay, members.
    2. To undertake a project which is the Covered Stage for the Proposed High School Amphitheater, which has a projected cost of P300,000.00

    ACTION NEEDED FROM THE CLASSMATES:
The two abovementioned points which have been agreed upon in Dumaguete are being presented to all our classmates for approval. This is a necessary first step, before we can even think of raising funds, remittances, and other concerns, as this approval would give credence and authority for everything else we will do for this class project.
For all of us in this egroup, we are now proposing that we signify our approval by voting Yes (or disapproval by voting No) on these two items.

copy of Tutit's email:

Hi from all your classmates here in Dumaguete!! We know it has been some time that we have kept our silence even as more and more classmates pop up in our egroup. We apologize for that. Our reason is a very simple one. We wanted to be able to come up with something concrete for all of you so we could finally focus our course of action. As I mentioned to Susan May and Joel, your classmates here in Dumaguete had a meeting last night (Friday Nov 14) A good number of classmates came and we all discussed our proposed possible projects.
Before I proceed, we would like to inform all of you that we have created a project committee which is composed of 5 members. This committee is in charge of making representations with the high school and the university administration re discussions about our chosen projects, to make ocular inspections, represent the class in biddings and design approval of our project, and to provide you all who are not with us, the necessary information which you would want to have re our chosen project. The project committee is composed of:
    1. Stella Florendo-chairman
    2. Ronaldo Teves
    3. Dick Emperado
    4. Restituto Edjec
    5. Judith Ragay
It is our main concern that your are all agreeable to this set up and we would want to be assured that you will give us your full trust and confidence in this undertaking. We will in time need to coordinate with Susan May, being the chairperson for this project.
I personally paid a visit to our High School and talked with Mr. Ablong and Miss Erum regarding what they considered the most immediate need of the high school. We discussed these needs in our meeting and at the same time, Ben also shed light on the proposed amphitheater and stage that he had been mentioning as part of the developmental plans the university has for the high school. In view of these discussions, we came up with three possible projects for us to undertake: (proposals 1 and 2 are the needs that the high school administration considered immediate):
Proposal #1 COMFORT ROOM FOR THE HIGH SCHOOL CLINIC. This has a projected expense of roughly P70,000.00 as per copy of request made by the high school department to the university administration. The estimate includes bill of materials and labor. There is a possibility of doing away with the clinic later on and we have to consider that the room that they are using as clinic right now may be transferred to another place or room. Thus, we did not go for this.
Proposal #2 COVERED WALKWAY CONNECTING NEW CLASSROOMS (THE OLD T-ROOMS WE USED) TO THE OLD HE BUILDING (SAME ROOMS THE GIRLS HELD H.E. CLASSES UNDER MRS. YGNALAGA AND MRS GAUDIEL). The estimate I was able to get consisted of 3 walkways. (Since the high school is only asking the class for only 1 of the 3 ,I cannot give the estimated cost on this one.) Since the old H.E. building will be preserved due to its historical value to the university, we are assured on the usefulness on this walkway. (I have attached a picture of one existing covered walkway. The walkway they need will be like this one). We also did not go for this but considered it a possibility IF our donations exceed the cost of our chosen project.
PROPOSAL # 3 COVERED STAGE FOR THE PROPOSED HIGH SCHOOL AMPHITHEATER- ---(this won the votation for class project). This stage will be 10X5 meters in size. This will have a designed cover that will not be removed when the auditorium is put up. This project will kick-off what the university has envisioned as the high school's very own auditorium where they can hold their programs and even graduation exercises. The projected cost of this stage is three hundred thousand pesos (P300,000.00) . We are assured that if we are able to raise funds for this stage, the university will put up its counterpart in the cement seats of the amphitheater. We understand that this stage and seat areas will be what is inside the auditorium later on. The important thing is that WE, SUHS 70 WILL BE TAKING THE INITIAL STEPS towards the realization of this auditorium. AND, the stage will always be there as a monument of our efforts. We have the option of naming the stage as SUHS70 stage or whatever the class may decide on when it is completed. Ben brought us the sketches of this developmental plans and I think he can also scan or provide those sketches for you who are not here.
If you are all agreeable to this project then maybe we can proceed to discussing other points of clarification and remittance of donations.
I have attached pictures of our meeting last night and we look forward to dinner at Pres Ben's home on Nov 21 when Elena Lajato Kramer will be joining us. We agreed on 1st Friday of the month meetings so we can regularly discuss and update the progress of our project.
By the way, 2010 reunion is scheduled for Aug 25-29 so please plan your vacation leaves NOW! Till then . . . . best regards and God bless
